'Invisible'
E
lena Berkovich's exhibition titled Invisible is an intriguing and in depth,
multilayered exploration of the psychological mindscapes of women.
Are these portraits of the of spoken of invisible women? Of our modern era or do they represent perhaps the forgotten, ignored and overlooked women of the art world down the ages?
These works on Perspex, have an archetypical aspect to them; they seem to have a consistent universality readily understood by most of us, and certainly by almost all women.
Every portrait tells a story that is different, but somehow, also the same, which gives the exhibition a strong iconographic aura. In these works you will find alienation, great sadness, resignation and defiance, sensuality, serenity and strength.
It is a very powerful first solo exhibition from a remarkable, late emerging artist.
